Looking at what the future holds for a person with a disability may require thoughtful pre-planning. 
 
New York Lawyers for the Public Interest (NYLPI) provides essential tools to successfully understand 1) the special needs trust / supplemental needs trust, 2) a healthcare proxy, 3) a letter of intent, 4) a power of attorney, 5) supported decision-making and / or guardianship, and much, much more!  
 

Integrated Transition Program

The program will focus on the development of independent life skills, including self-advocacy, independent living, communication skills, and strategies for developing positive relationships. Sessions include a variety of community-based outings, during which participants will put a previously learned skill into action. Parents will participate in a simultaneous support group, as well as a weekly session debrief, in which the participants will engage parents in the skill learned that day.

Sinergia's After School Art Program, Friends Are We! Session 2

This interactive after-school program will offer children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), from ages 3 up to 13 years old, with social skills development through the arts. The program involves the participation of students’ parents to learn skills taught and then to reinforce them at home and in their communities. Students will explore various visual art forms in an interactive small group setting.

People with developmental disabilities are sexual beings that need information and skills for making healthy decisions about their sexuality and learning ways to stay safe as they navigate relationships. Unfortunately, many are often left out of the conversation about sexuality by people in their immediate circle including teachers, professionals, direct support staff and parents, among others, almost as if they are incapable of having thoughts, feelings, and needs. This webinar will teach attendees how they can best support people with I/DD in their self-advocacy efforts.
