In October 2024, Sinergia announced how our advocacy efforts alongside many other grassroots disability advocacy organizations resulted in Governor Kathy Hochul signing Executive Order 40 (EO40) making New York State an Employment First state. Today, we are beyond proud to share a success story on how this advancement for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities is already taking shape here at Sinergia! Meet Juan Carlos Rosario!
Juan Carlos receives services from both our Supported Employment (SEMP) and UPLIVING day habilitation programs. SEMP supports people with disabilities secure and maintain meaningful employment by providing job coaching, skills training, and workforce support. UPLIVING encourages community engagement and personal growth through recreational activities and social activities.
Juan Carlos' journey has taken many turns beginning in our Pathways to Employment (Caminos) program in 2016. Over time and numerous experiences, including at CVS and AHRC, he secured an internship with Walgreens in 2024 where he was ultimately hired and is happily employed!
Walgreens celebrates Juan Carlos and commends his work ethic and dedication, noting most of all his professionalism, reliability, and punctuality. He takes immense pride in his work and dedicates himself to making a positive impact in his daily interactions in his role! Juan Carlos continues exploring new opportunities, engaging with his community, and partaking in diverse activities ranging from museum visits to field trips in neighboring New Jersey and to Long Island!
Worth noting that like most things in life, it takes a village to make significant accomplishments, and Juan Carlos has first and foremost his dedicated and unwavering mother, Ana. They inspire each other so much and Juan Carlos, like many sons, is deeply motivated to take care of her. Lastly, the travel training that Juan Carlos received prior to arriving at Sinergia has been pivotal in empowering him to explore and navigate the Five Boroughs with greater ease, including his employment and community engagement.
