When families with children in Special Education are contacted by the Administration for Children’s Services (ACS), it can bring fear, confusion, and many unanswered questions. Many parents and caregivers are left wondering: What does this mean? What are my rights? What should I say or not say? How do I protect my family?
You are not alone, and you deserve clear, honest information.
This workshop supports and empowers parents and caregivers by clearly explaining what your rights are when interacting with ACS and what you can expect during an investigation or involvement.
Understanding your rights can reduce fear, help you feel more in control, and allow you to make informed decisions for yourself and your children.
Everything will be explained in plain, accessible language, with the goal of helping families feel informed, prepared, and supported, not judged.
This workshop will be facilitated by Brooklyn Defenders, a trusted organization that provides free legal representation and advocacy to parents and caregivers in Family Court. Their team works closely with families every day and understands how stressful these situations can be.

Format:
This session will take place on Zoom as a live group presentation. Participants can share comments and questions using the chat and the Q&A feature throughout the workshop.
At the end of the presentation, our facilitators will hold a dedicated Q&A segment to answer additional questions. Este taller apoya y empodera a madres, padres y cuidadores, explicando de manera clara cuáles son sus derechos al interactuar con ACS y qué pueden esperar durante una investigación o un caso.
Conocer sus derechos puede ayudar a reducir el miedo, brindar mayor tranquilidad y permitirle tomar decisiones informadas para usted y sus hijos.
Toda la información se compartirá en un lenguaje claro, accesible y respetuoso, con el objetivo de que las familias se sientan informadas, preparadas y acompañadas, no juzgadas.
El taller será facilitado por Brooklyn Defenders, una organización de confianza que ofrece representación legal y defensa gratuita a padres y cuidadores en la Corte de Familia. Su equipo trabaja diariamente con familias y entiende profundamente el estrés y el impacto emocional que puede causar una situación con ACS.
